Acting Executive Director
Avianca Bouchedid has dedicated the bulk of her 25+ career to the nonprofit sector. She solves complex problems by building infrastructures, designing systems, and architecting policies and procedures.
One of her most recent ventures was designing and launching a collaboration that brought national experts together (including and especially survivors) to end sex trafficking in the U.S. As the Executive Director of the New Jersey affiliate of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, she honed her skills in navigating the complexities of social advocacy, ensuring financial sustainability, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders. Successfully leading the affiliate part-time and remotely for 8 years – long before the Zoom era and while juggling a full time job – required diplomacy, robust communication skills, and exceptional time management skills. That full time job was as the senior director of a survivors of homicide victims program in the 5 boroughs of NYC. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, she vividly remembers the 18-hour workdays and her staff tripling. One of her proudest accomplishments is winning the United States’ President’s Volunteer Service Bronze Award. Avi earned a certificate in Innovating for Sustainability from Harvard Business School, holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Columbia University, and graduated cum laude from St. John’s University with a bachelor’s degree in literature & speech. In her spare time, she is the president of her town’s high school’s Parent Teacher Student Organization, voraciously reads non-fiction, writes poetry, and often interjects quotes from Bugs Bunny and The Honeymooners into everyday conversations. |
